The DHI scheme is aimed at Dutch companies looking to expand internationally and introduce their technology, product, or service to foreign markets, with a particular focus on SMEs with clear export ambitions.
The DHI scheme includes four instruments and typically covers 50% of eligible costs.
Demonstration projects: minimum grant of € 25.000 and a maximum of € 200.000 per project
Feasibility studies: minimum grant of € 25.000 and a maximum of € 100.000 per project
Investment preparation projects: minimum grant of € 25.000 and a maximum of € 100.000 per project
Market validation projects: a fixed grant of € 25.000, with a minimum project size of € 50.000
Eligible costs include, among others, personnel costs (both in the Netherlands and in the target country), external expertise, travel and accommodation costs, and costs directly related to project execution (such as equipment).
With the DHI scheme, the government supports Dutch companies in entering new international markets. The objective is to demonstrate the technical performance, economic feasibility, and added value of your solution to potential international clients.
In a demonstration project, a technology or product is demonstrated in a realistic operational environment abroad. The aim is to show potential customers that the solution works and is suitable for application in the local market.
A feasibility study focuses on assessing the technical and financial feasibility of a project in a specific foreign market. This may include evaluating technical feasibility under local conditions, payback periods, and regulatory requirements. If necessary, small-scale testing can be part of the project. The study is explicitly aimed at convincing a potential foreign client or end-user; general market research is therefore not eligible under this category.
An investment preparation project focuses on determining whether an investment is technically and/or commercially viable. The outcome is a report with findings that support an investment decision.
A market validation project is intended for start-ups that want to introduce a new product or service in a foreign market but face technical, commercial, economic, or legal challenges. The project explores how these challenges can be addressed, for example through testing or by collaborating with a local partner with relevant expertise.
